Workshop format and participant introductions. Setting the scene – operator roadmaps and options. LTE in the context of present industry challenges (traffic growth, all-IP services, shifts in value chain, convergence, cost reduction/optimisation).
Compare benefits and weaknesses of LTE OFDMA technology with mobile WiMax and HSPA. This will cover the trade-offs between capacity, coverage, and complexity, and their impact on overall cost of equipment and network operations. Compare and contrast potential competitive deployment scenarios at the radio access network level, in a variety of environments.
Discuss the impact of flat all-IP network architectures on inter-working, simplicity and seamless mobility, and requirements on throughput, latency, service classes, roaming, and standardised architecture to allow competitive cost structure.
View on how proposed radio and core network technologies impact some of the key NGMN requirements, including spectral efficiency, simplicity, and total cost of ownership. Implications on organisation structure, alliances and infrastructure sharing for operators. Wrap-up discussions of issues arising.
